We've spent alot of time this summer driving, often to see my parents. We made it over one weekend for Watermelon Days in Humeston! True to its name, there was free watermelon for all. As long as you ate it inside the orange fence. I told my mom we were just like cows. As long as you feed us, we'll stand inside your fence. As you can see, my dad was a rebel and stood on the wrong side. (Actually, he was being kind and sitting by the dogs in the shade waiting for us to bring him a slice. Zach had to tag team him because they were not going to let us bring a slice outside the fence.)
And what family fun weekend would be complete without blindfolded golf cart lessons? It was Dad's idea, he and I were a team and Zach and Mom were a team. We all tied for 2nd place, quite a blow to everyone's egos!
It was super hot outside so Buster Posey was completely passed out on the way home.
Quite a change from his normal bouncing around the car, looking out every window as fast as possible and then starting over again. He's a good rider though, doesn't get sick and waits until we stop and let him out to do anything. I heard a story from a coworker today about her dog's first trip to the Ozarks with them. Apparently the 4 hour car ride did not agree with him~on the way home he puked the whole time! That would be miserable...she said no more long car rides for him.
If it's not obvious, I felt like posting, but didn't feel like uploading any new pictures. Halfway ambition can be a good thing, or...not. I don't have pictures from our bike ride yesterday, but I rode 8 miles! Without stopping? No. Keeping up with the boys? No. But I did it all within an hour! And then Mick and Stephen decided to race the 4 mile trail one way and did it in 12 min 45 seconds. Showoffs.... I'm sore today but just my shoulders. It must be the way I hunch over to ride, but my legs are never sore. I told myself that if I rode my bike enough this summer I might wear it out and get to buy a new (much lighter hopefully) bike next summer. There's still time! I'll either need a new bike next summer or this one will need some serious tuning, we'll see.
The thing I'm learning more and more about exercising this summer is that I have so much more energy after getting out and moving! I was very active all my life until I started working 40 hours/week and having less time for play. And with easy access to TV and internet...this last year has been pretty sedentary. Now I know what that feels like and I don't like it. So here's to the rest of my active life, feeling good and being healthy!
